YOGA Classes at Heart Space
HATHA Yoga
The Sanskrit meaning of the word ‘Ha - tha’ can be translated as; ‘Sun – moon’, evoking the essence of balance.
Our Hatha Yoga classes aim to restore balance within your whole being; physically, emotionally and energetically. You will be guided through a series of physical poses (asana) to build strength, stability and mobility. You will also explore breathwork practices (pranayama) to calm the mind, and meditation practices to centre yourself and regulate your nervous system.
Yoga is about more than physical movement - it is a complete lifestyle, full of life-long benefits. Your practice allows you to turn inward and reflect. To respect this, you will find that our teachers will often explore themes relating to ancient Yoga philosophy to help you navigate your own journey. We encourage you to take your practice off the mat and out into your life!
The term ‘Hatha Yoga’ can be used to describe many a ‘style’ of practicing this body/mind connection; from gentle, nurturing, slow-based sequences, to powerful, faster-paced vinyasa (flow) sequences. Our teachers are all different and love to share their own flavour of the practice of Hatha yoga. Ask us for guidance on which teacher might be the best fit for you to help you grow your practice!
All classes are safely designed for everybody and every ‘body’. We believe in functional teaching methods, meaning we appreciate and honour the fact that different humans have different bones! You will be guided to learn about your own body as you develop your Yoga practice with us.
YIN Yoga
Yin Yoga is a deep practice of holding specific poses for longer periods of time. In doing so, we aim to go beyond the superficial muscular tissue of the body that we use all the time, and instead, open on a far deeper level - into the fascia; (deeper-set tissue) that weaves its way throughout our physical body. This allows the fascial tubes to invite fluid and hydration to where it’s needed within the body, allowing for more overall health, freedom of movement and flexibility. We intersperse each pose with a full body ‘rebound’, to allow the tissues to reset.
Yin yoga allows for deep release to occur on all levels; not only physically, but energetically – through the meridian lines and energy pathways of the body, and also emotionally – allowing us to reflect and go within, feeling our body shift and change, observing our breathing and practicing the art of surrender to our body, thoughts, feelings and emotions.
Yin yoga sometimes uses props to support you in finding the best functional way of movement to help you release, and our experienced Yin teachers will guide you safely though this hugely beneficial practice, so that you get to know your body (and your Self) on a much greater level.
Yin yoga is a perfect practice to complement your Hatha yoga, or movement-based practices.
YIN / YANG Yoga
Yin/Yang is a beautifully balanced class; focusing on both the energetic fluidity of a 'Yang' Yoga practice, and the deep release of a 'Yin' Yoga Practice.
'Yang' - Starting with a dynamic, movement-based hatha flow, you will generate heat within the body and activate inner strength and balance by engaging muscles and building energy. (Often incorporating some Qigong & Tai chi movement techniques). We will then slow right down and transform the energy to a slower, deeper 'Yin' practice for the last half of the practice.
Balancing both Yin and Yang movement together, allows for a full body reset. Not only for the Physical body, but also the Emotional & Energetic bodies too… Ultimately, your WHOLE being!
Meditation & Satsang
Meditation is, simply put; the act of just 'being'.
There are many forms and ways of practicing meditation. In this class, we will guide you to go within and explore different tools and techniques to help you to clear your mind and find focus. A meditation practice can be incredibly beneficial for creating more calm and relaxation, for reducing anxiety and stress, and for getting to know yourself on a much deeper level.
The word 'Satsang' can be translated to mean; 'association with the wise'. Meditating together in a group creates a strong spiritual atmosphere which can sometimes allows a deeper experience of meditation. In Satsang, people of different levels practice together – from newcomers to experienced yogis and teachers. Satsang is the heart of the yoga practice.
The element of Satsang in this class also creates the opportunity for group discussion about meditation and the practice, and the opportunity to learn and share together with your teacher, and with the group, will be available.
Breathwork
Enjoy 45 minutes of Morning Breathwork to start your day off with clarity and intention. Through Sacred Breathwork, we are able to access our deeper layers, subconscious programming, and trapped emotions that are unknowingly stored in our bodies. By connecting to our breath and deeply relaxing our nervous system, these emotions are given space to rise to the surface, to be felt, and to move through our bodies somatically, all within a safe space held by your facilitator.
Soul Align
‘Pranic Healing & Soul Align' with Liz, assists you to move and release energy through your body, restoring balance, helping you to feel grounded, nourished, lighter and more connected to Self. The first half an hour is made up of standing, gentle breathwork, slow movement & chakra cleansing. The 10 Pranic cleansing moves help you to empty the energy ‘dregs from your cup’. Using slow movement, breath and intention you cleanse each of the 7 main chakras in your body. The moves are very easy and enable you to be present with your body and your breath (think Tai Chi) as you release the old energy that no longer serves you.
The second half involves laying or sitting, and then being guided into deep, healing, soulful meditation, infused with the rich energies of Mother Gaia. This is channelled for those present in the space to surrender their physical body, rest their mind & move beyond their emotions to a space of freedom, lightness and clarity in their energy body. From this clearer and more open presence, you can receive your inner wisdom more easily and allow the support and love you most need to fill you with fresh new energy. During the Soulful Meditation Liz plays Tibetan bowls around and over you to enhance the balancing of your energetic flow and Qi.
